There are a lot of milestones a lifelong pitcher can reach, but it doesn’t get much better than throwing a no-hitter in the big leagues. Sure, a perfect game is better, and winning the World Series would likely be higher on most pitcher’s lists, but a no-hitter is right up there as well.
On Wednesday, John Means joined the ranks. Facing the Seattle Mariners, Means went 9 innings, striking out 12, and not allowing a baserunner via a hit.
Everyone loves a good no-hitter, but it becomes even more special when there’s a great story behind it. For Means, there definitely is one.
Imagine going from a hopeful substitute teacher, to making history in the MLB in the span of just a few years.
If Means eventually does get into teaching, let’s hope he teaches history. He just made it.
