One of the slowest teams to start the season off, the St. Louis Blues are only three points out of a playoff spot after defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2 on Saturday night.
A strong defensive effort meant the visiting Blues only had to hear the Blue Jackets goal on three occasions (once at the start of the game and for each goal).
Most Blue Jackets fans probably enjoy the cannon going off for obvious reasons, but for the opposition, the explosion can get tiresome, as pointed out by Blues defenceman Joel Edmundson in the St. Louis Dispatch.
Edmundson wouldn't be the first player to get scared, and certainly won't be the last.
With two games in hand on the Vancouver Canucks, who sit with 54 points in the final spot in the Western Conference, the Blues are above .500 sporting a 23-22-8 record for the second time this season.
Since the calendar flipped over to 2019, the team is 8-4-1 and can thank goaltender Jordan Binnington for their cannonballing them into contention.
Binnington has just one regulation loss with a 6-1-1 record to go along with his 1.86 goals against average and .922 save percentage.
