Well, it’s confirmed: Following a nine-year career in the NBA, Jeremy Lin is heading to China. He's signing with the Beijing Ducks of the CBA, announcing the news on the Chinese version of TikTok.
While the lack of NBA interest this summer has been a tough experience for Lin, he’s also looking forward to the next chapter in China. In a classy message thanking fans on Instagram, Lin also says it would be a huge honour to play in front of his Chinese fans, after making it as one of the few Asian Americans success stories in the NBA.
There will definitely be some next-level fanfare for the arrival of Lin’s playing career in China. It isn’t the NBA, but it’s going to be exciting in its own right, and Lin has been looking forward to this for some time.
This could prove to be just a detour for Lin, too, instead of a permanent farewell from the NBA. At 31 years of age, he still might have enough left in the tank to land in the NBA again with a strong performance overseas, as other league vets have done.
If this is it, though, he can rest easy, too. Lin already made his history this year, as the first Asian-American to win an NBA title. (Once again: Your NBA champions, the Toronto Raptors!)
