Free agency hasn’t proved fruitful for Jeremy Lin, who, despite beginning the year as a veteran mentor to Trae Young and then going on to win a championship with the Raptors, hasn’t attracted much NBA interest.

The 31 year old announced on Tuesday that he was signing with the CBA’s Beijing Ducks. In an unusual but definitely entertaining twist, Lin took to China’s version of TikTok, Douyin, to announce the move.

Whoa. Is TikTok the new platform for breaking news? Is Woj going to have to deliver updates from this season’s trade deadline in 10-15 second music videos?

It may not be the NBA, but for somebody who has been as influential on basketball in Asia as Lin, playing in China will be a cool experience as well. You already know that Lin is going to draw massive crowds to arenas for his games.

Perhaps with a strong performance overseas, Lin can mount an NBA comeback à la Michael Beasley or J.R. Smith. He still has plenty of career left ahead of him, health permitting. Back in July, Lin spoke openly about his difficulties in free agency as well as the emotional toll.
