Restricted free agent William Nylander hasn’’t flinched in contract negotiations with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but Jeff O’Neill believes it’s time for him to reach a deal already.

A former player for the Leafs, O-Dog is familiar with how these situations work and insisted that if he were in Nylander’s shoes, he’d be calling his agent to try to arrange a contract ahead of the regular season.

O-Dog: If I was Nylander I would be calling my agent to get a deal done

There’s clearly a mutual interest between each club about keeping their relationship intact, but unfortunately things aren’t that simple. Nylander has remained adamant about signing a long-term deal with the team but when you factor in John Tavares’ recent seven-year, $77 million contract AND the need to sign Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner in the next year, it’s hardly a surprise to see that the two sides haven’t come to an agreement yet.

Despite all of the chatter, newly appointed general manager Kyle Dubas has insisted the team is uninterested in dealing their young forward. At least not yet…

Time will tell if one of the sides eventually breaks.
