Of all the divisions in the NFL, there may not be one with rivalries quite as bitter as the AFC North. The Baltimore Ravens, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cleveland Browns, and the Cincinnati Bengals. Lock any two of ‘em in a room together and they’ll probably blow the roof right off.

On Monday, we were treated to an AFC North classic when Ravens and the Browns took the field under the bright prime time lights. The back-and-forth affair was high-scoring, exciting football. As though we needed anything to make the stakes even more dramatic, we got it on Thursday.

Following the game, a video began to circulate that appeared to show Ravens defensive back Marcus Peters spit on Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry. Landry – who clearly didn’t realize what had happened at the time – responded to the video, calling Peters a coward and claiming that he wouldn’t have done it if Landry were to have been facing him.

Whether or not he would have spit on Landry if they were face to face is up for debate, but either way it’s extremely disrespectful to spit on anyone. We’re all for healthy rivalries, but sometimes they can go too far.

For what it's worth, Peters denies spitting on Landry.

"I didn't spit at Jarvis. Where I come from, when you have an issue with someone, you deal with it face-to-face, man-to-man," he said. "Anyone who believes that I intentionally spit at him does not know me, plain and simple."

The two teams have already played their two yearly games, so barring an unlikely meeting in the playoffs, Peters and Landry will have to wait until next season to face each other again. Don’t worry, they’re both still under contract with their respective AFC North teams next year.
