The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees own what is arguably the greatest rivalry in all of sports, and 2017 has been no exception. Both teams are two of Major League Baseball’s most storied franchises, and there is an extra bit of desire to win when the two square off.
On Sunday night, the two ball clubs battled in a critical division showdown. The Red Sox headed into the game leading the AL East with a 51-41 record, while the Yankees entered just behind them at 47-42. In the top of the 8th inning, with a man on base, 2017 home run derby champ Aaron Judge sent a ball deep to center field, a hit that surely looked like it would leave the park. However, Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Junior managed to track the ball and rob Judge of his 31st homer on the year.
Wow.
Fans didn't shy away from sharing their feelings on the early catch-of-the-year candidate.
The Red Sox went on to beat the Yanks 3-0 in front of an ecstatic Fenway crowd. The rivalry between the two teams hasn’t been as intense in recent years, but with both at the top of the division, it’s only going to get better as the season continues to progress.
Hopefully their games will consist of more highlight reel plays like Bradley’s in the future.
