Ilya Sorokin took on a larger role than expected right off the bat this season due to Semyon Varlamov's injury, but he’s certainly held his own as the full-time starter.
The 26-year-old sophomore recently had a new mask designed by David Gunnarsson and it’s the ultimate tribute to some of the greatest Islanders of all-time.
Sorokin’s latest mask includes right players, including Mike Bossy, Denis Potvin, John Tonelli, Butch Goring, Billy Smith, Bryan Trottier, Bob Nystrom and Clark Gillies.
Through 8 games this season, Sorokin has posted a 4-2-2 record with a .933 save percentage and a 2.23 goals against average.
