UPDATE:
This trade just got a whole lot more complicated and you should follow TSN.ca for all updates!
PIT-OTT deal involving Brassard is ultra-complicated, so much so that Brassard will likely first be traded to a team other than PIT. Then flipped to PIT. Hearing that third team is likely VGK. Potential for layers of salary retention.

The Ottawa Senators are one of the teams that has been predicted to be the most active ahead of TradeCentre on Monday.
TSNs Darren Dreger says “it is conceivable” Sens could trade ALL of Karlsson Brassard Hoffman Smith Pageau and Oduya by Monday. Bob MacKenzie says Vegas could be in on 65. Mind, blown
— John Rodenburg (@TSNJR) February 22, 2018
Not on that list of players tweeted out Thursday was Dion Phaneuf (obviously), who was dealt to the Kings just over a week ago
Derick Brassard was on that list of players, though, and on Friday he was dealt to the defending Stanley Cup champions.
Ottawa was pushing to get a first-round pick back and reports indicate they'll likely flip Ian Cole before the deadline. From a Penguins perspective, Brassard is an impact player that improves one of the best offences in hockey.
Here’s the problem for the rest of the NHL:
— Josh Yohe (@JoshYohe_PGH) February 23, 2018
Sheary-Crosby-Rust
Hagelin-Malkin-Hornqvist
Guentzel-Brassard-Kessel
Ian Cole won't stay in Ottawa, I'm told. Will very likely get flipped somewhere else, to a contender.

There are still more details to come in this Pittsburgh-Ottawa trade, perhaps a third team involved in some manner...

#TradeCentre: How big of an impact will #DerickBrassard make in the Penguins lineup? [🤔]
A post shared by TSN (@tsn_official) on
The first-round pick Ottawa is getting from Pittsburgh in the Brassard deal is in 2018
— Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) February 23, 2018
Ottawa had insisted on a 1st RD pick being part of any Brassard deal https://t.co/dVv2jqupSl

So Pittsburgh's top-3 centres are Crosby, Malkin, Brassard.
— Scott MacArthur (@ScottyMacThinks) February 23, 2018
That's nice.
Derrick Brassard is signed through next year, hence the first round pick. He is a pretty good playoff performer, essentially a 20 goal scorer. #penguins going for threepeat. Even @steelers haven’t done that. pic.twitter.com/IZb2OnD6qQ

The Penguins have paid a pretty steep price for Brassard. But then, when you're trying to win a third straight Cup, such things are probably necessary.
— Josh Yohe (@JoshYohe_PGH) February 23, 2018
Crosby-Malkin-Brassard-Sheahan is the center depth that gives the Penguins a legitimate chance of threepeating

Pens may never lose again.
don’t worry, rangers fans, we’ll get brassard the cup that he’s always deserved
— ego (@EvgeniMaIkinEgo) February 23, 2018
Derick Brassard has 55 points on 22 goals and 33 assists in 78 career playoff games. He has scored 4 game-winning goals. He has played into the Conference Final three times, once into the Cup Final.

Honestly I don't even care enough to dissect a Brassard trade. They've lost me.
— Bonk's Mullet (@BonksMullet) February 23, 2018
Jim Rutherford manages to get Brassard and keep under the Salary Cap. Amazing work Goalie position was a luxury and a position of depth. Cole is a loss but that savings helped pull this off. #Penguins
— Bob Pompeani (@KDPomp) February 23, 2018
Crosby-Malkin-Brassard-Sheahan has to be the best center depth of any cap team ever, right?

He was only here for less than 2 years, but this was my favourite Derick Brassard story here in Ottawa. https://t.co/zIwVvVLw0g

Derick Brassard's teams have played against the Penguins in the playoffs in each of the past four seasons.
— Dan Rosen (@drosennhl) February 23, 2018
Asked a scout recently if Brassard and Kessel would work well together. "Phil could play with anybody. He’s such a smart player. He might be no good for 58 or 59 minutes, but then, damn, a goal or an assist and the game’s over. That’s Phil.”
— Jonathan Bombulie (@BombulieTrib) February 23, 2018
If the Sens never made the Duchene deal, they’d be in a position to really rebuild and be loaded with picks while doing it. But they did, so they aren’t. Good haul for Brassard at least.
— Scott Wheeler (@scottcwheeler) February 23, 2018
Crosby, Malkin, Brassard. That's some serious depth at centre. The Oreo centre isn't that sweet.
— Steve Warne™🎙 (@TSNSteve) February 23, 2018
Big add for #Penguins, big day for Brassard, who has a chance to win a Cup now. Bet Sullivan plays him as third line center, but spots him into much bigger situations, including power play. Great situation for him. Rich get richer get richest.
— Aaron Portzline (@Aportzline) February 23, 2018
Yowza. GMJR doing some fine work on that one. Brassard will be a tremendous addition. Very nice playoff performer too. Losing Cole could eventually hurt, but still have some blue line options with Ruhwedel. Maybe another depth addition before Monday?
— Brian Metzer (@Brian_Metzer) February 23, 2018
Crosby-Malkin-Brassard-Sheehan is more formidable down the middle than with Bonino and Cullen in bottom-6.

Trotz: “Hey guys, we did great shutting down Crosby and Malkin tonight!”
Also Trotz: “Unfortunately, Hagelin, Brassard, and Kessel scored 4 goals on us and we lost…”
DERICK BRASSARD IS A PITTSBURGH PENGUIN.
