At 30 years of age, Sidney Crosby isn't done making history.

The Cole Harbor, Nova Scotia native is averaging a ridiculous 1.29 points per game and is already second in all-time Penguins total scoring with 1,111 behind only team owner Mario Lemieux (1,723). Not to mention he’s helped the franchise capture three Stanley Cups since being selected with the number one overall pick in the 2005 NHL draft.

Can #SidneyCrosby and the #Penguins pull it off again next season? 🤔

Crosby added to his impressive resume last night when he put home the game’s first marker against the Detroit Red Wings in a 5-2 loss. The goal ironically propelled Sid into 87th all time; the number he has essentially taken ownership of since entering the league. The tally was the 409th of his career, putting him ahead of TSN hockey analyst Ray Ferraro and New Jersey Devils great Patrik Elias.

Crosby has never been recognized as a pure goal-scorer, but the milestone is worth noting considering his relatively young age. The captain is well on his way to 500 goals and could find himself in the top ten in NHL points if his health permits it. Phil Esposito currently holds the 10th spot with 1,590 of his own.

Few players have worn the number 87 since Crosby entered the league. Former Vegas Golden Knight flop Vadim Shipachyov briefly donned it during his short stint in the NHL, while Edmonton Oilers forward David Musil wore it with the Oil in 2015. The only active player to wear the number is Washington Capitals left winger Liam O’Brien, who has played just 17 career games.

It’s looking like no one will be touching Crosby’s most recent milestone for a long, long time.
