It looks like the NHL’s most exciting victory celebrations are coming to an end.

On Thursday afternoon, Carolina Hurricanes captain Justin Williams took to Twitter to announce that tonight will mark the last time the team performs its storm surge on the season, regardless of whether the team wins or loses against the Washington Capitals. The team is scheduled to play three more games at PNC Arena before the playoffs.

The Carolina #Hurricanes’ Storm Surge celebrations are coming to an end. . Thoughts?🤔

The Storm Surges have given the Canes’ fan base a new beat and additional reason to attend games. Coach Rod Brind’Amour claimed that the team started doing it in the first place as a way to thank fans, and “provide a little levity to a pretty serious game”. This year we’ve seen the team do a little kayaking on the ice, shoot some hoops, play Duck Hunter, and almost always ‘Skol’ in front of their fans.

Most hockey fans were upset to see it go.

There were, however, some who didn’t feel the surges were necessarily a good things. After the team was labeled as "a bunch of jerks" for it, they decided to sell these bad boys in what was the most brilliant marketing move of the year.

Honestly, it’s a bummer that we’re not going to see these again this year, especially with the Hurricanes holding a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. Williams did say SEASON so who knows, maybe they’ll be back for the playoffs?
