19-year-old Patrik Laine has taken the NHL by storm since coming into the league last year. Drafted second overall in a draft where the two top picks were considered generational talents (Auston Matthews being the first overall pick), Laine has proven that his goal scoring touch would not fade as he transitioned into the NHL. As a matter of fact, he’s reached some legendary company with his latest goal.
Not only was the goal his 40th of the season, a milestone that most NHLers won’t reach in their careers, it also marked the 76th goal of Laine’s young career. Still yet to turn 20, Laine has been making waves in the all-time teenager scoring list, surpassing Sidney Crosby with his most recent tally and tying Brian Bellows and Wayne Gretzky for third all time. Only Dale Hawerchuk (85) and Jimmy Carson (92) sit ahead of him. Laine turns 20 on April 19.
As expected, fans are trying to pick their jaws off the floor as the young sniper continues to light the lamp.
