Even in the offseason, drama continues to follow the Los Angeles Lakers.
Their search for a new coach after firing Luke Walton has caught a snag, after Monty Williams signed with the Suns and Tyronn Lue pulled his name out of consideration, and the latest rumour from Stephen A. Smith suggests that people near Lakers owner Jeanie Buss are telling her to trade LeBron James.
As you can guess, they’re not loving these developments over in Lakerland! One Laker fan on Reddit is actually planning a protest of the team on Friday (with a secondary time on Saturday) and as of the time of writing, it has over 8,000 upvotes on the Lakers Reddit page.
‘Here’s the Details:
Friday @ 12:00 PM, In front of Staples Center
We will be holding a protest to garner ESPN Media Coverage. Voicing our displeasure of the front office.
Why? Jeannie hates bad PR. She don’t care about us, but cares what the media says. Point is to spin the narrative to the Talking Heads “Is Jeannie the opposite of her Father?” and have them talk.
Bring Laker Gear, byo chairs & Water.
Chants:
“Sell the team!”
“Fire Rambis!”
"Fire Linda!"
"Kevin McHale" (Ironic, I know)
“No Jason Kidd!”
"Shadow Owner!"’
As the protest gained more and more traction on social media, the organizer released a formal press release that slams “the ineptitude decision making of this organization’s leadership and the path they are taking.”
Believe it or not, it’s even gotten to the point that a local radio station in Los Angeles will host the organizer before the protest.
Considering that the Lakers are one of the most decorated franchises of all-time, and also that they have a guy by the name of LeBron freaking James on the roster, it’s wild to think that this is where we are, but there seems to be some real concern about the direction of this team within the fanbase.
In the meantime, there are still actual playoff games to be played, but come the offseason, there may not be a team more interesting to follow than the Lakers.
