It’s been a tough season in between the pipes for the Philadelphia Flyers as they’ve gotten starts from five different goalies so far this season. They’ve been rolling with Carter Hart and Anthony Stolarz as of late and they’ve managed to hold their own as the team is now on a six-game winning streak as of Thursday night.
Although Stolarz didn’t get the start on Thursday against the Boston Bruins, the 25-year-old Edison, New Jersey native decided it was the perfect time to unveil his new Flyers mask and you can bet it included a tribute to everyone’s favourite mascot, Gritty.
Designed by famous mask artist David Gunnarsson, Stolarz decided it was time to update his Flyers mask now that he’s a permanent member of the big league club and he knew exactly what he wanted.
Gritty hasn’t just been a hit among fans throughout the league, he’s been a big hit inside the Flyers’ locker room, as well. Stolarz isn’t the first Flyers netminder to honour the mascot on one of his masks, and he certainly won’t be the last one.
