Miami, Florida native Allen Hurns went to school at the University of Miami and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014 as an undrafted free agent, where he spent the first four years of his career. However, this past offseason the 26-year-old was released by the Jags and ended up signing a two-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys a few days later.
While Hurns has rocked the No. 88 over the past four seasons, this season he’ll be taking the field with a new number on the front and back of his jersey and it’s not because No. 88 is already taken by Dez Bryant.
In a recent interview with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, the new Cowboys receiver shared why he decided to choose the No. 17 and it’s strictly to honour the 17 people who lost their lives during the shooting that took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last month.
Hurns accumulated 2,669 receiving yards and caught 21 touchdowns in 52 games with the Jags, but has appeared in just 21 games over the past two seasons after missing just one game in his first two seasons.
