Julio Jones and Matt Ryan have struggled this season and their woes continued today against the Carolina Panthers.
Ryan has now thrown 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions on the season, a year after throwing 38 touchdowns and seven interceptions. While Ryan has been in the spotlight all season due to the Falcon’s historic Super Bowl loss, Jones is catching (No pun intended) all the flak today.
That’s because about halfway through the 4th quarter of today’s loss against the Panthers, he dropped one of the most wide-open touchdowns we’ve ever seen.
Jones had his best game of the year in terms of yardage today, but that drop is all that anyone is going to remember. There isn’t a defender in sight on a player that is considered one of the top wideouts in the league and Jones ends up face down on the ground after bumbling the ball out of his hands.
On top of all that, it was a crucial play in the game. That was on 4th and 7, so the Falcons gave up the ball and ended up losing the game by three. So, that touchdown could have meant a lot against a division rival.
Fans and fantasy owners couldn’t believe their eyes.
It seems like the Super Bowl hangover is real.
