It’s well known that the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals have some bad blood between them, and tonight, things got taken to new heights.
Things got heated between Evegeni Malkin and T.J. Oshie when the two collided on the ice during a game at PPG Paints Arena. Visibly upset, Malkin dangerously flicked Oshie’s stick into the Capitals bench and nearly contacted a few standing players. Oshie immediately took exception and the two engaged in a heated tussle.
Here's a look at the scrap:
Can you really blame Oshie?
The teams have a well-known hatred for each other which reached new heights after Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin entered the NHL in the 2005-06 season. The Pens and Caps have had three postseason dates since, with the former coming on top in each one. Sid and Ovy have exchanged numerous Hart Trophies over that stretch.

Malkin has been enjoying a Hart Trophy-like campaign, but has been known to lose his cool the odd time. The Capitals currently lead the division in points but a second round date with the Penguins is completely in the cards. With the Pens sitting in second, there’s a good chance the teams will meet in the playoffs for a fourth time since the lockout.
