There’s been a reckoning in hockey culture, and it’s forced everyone in the sport to take a look at themselves and decide how they can make hockey a more inclusive place.
The Seattle Kraken came into the league at this pivotal time, and have positioned themselves as an organization that wants to be on the cutting edge of change. Their staff and hirings have consisted of qualified, diverse individuals that will not only make the organization a well-run one, but one that truly makes hockey fans of all backgrounds feel welcome and excited to be apart of.
The Kraken have continued to break barriers with their team hirings, and now, they’ve done it again.
Today, Everett Fitzhugh made history with the Seattle Kraken, bring named the team’s broadcaster. Fitzhugh is the first Black man to hold the position with an NHL franchise.
Fitzhugh spent the past five seasons with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL, where he was both radio play-by-play and the team's director of media relations.
We can’t wait to hear him on a broadcast, and we love the direction Seattle is headed in with their team.
