The mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, occurred nearly one month ago and many professional sports franchises have gone above and beyond since the tragedy to show their support for the community to help them get through this difficult time.

From special tributes and visits to patches and decals, teams and athletes are doing their best to help the lift the spirits of everyone at the school and within the community. On Wednesday afternoon, students and faculty at Marjory Stoneman Douglas got a surprise visit from Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade and they couldn’t contain their excitement.

The students thought it was going to be a routine day at school, but instead they got a chance to meet and interact with the face of the Miami Heat franchise.

The three-time NBA champion also made sure to make a special visit to two students in particular, Joaquin Oliver’s brothers Julien and Darius.

Joaquin was one of the 17 victims in the tragedy and was buried in his D-Wade jersey. After hearing this heartbreaking news, Wade reacted by dedicating the rest of the season to Joaquin.

Even though the circumstances aren’t the greatest, it’s always awesome to see athletes and celebrities use their social status for important things like this. Things will get a little better for everyone in the community as each day goes by, but surprise visits like this one will certainly help speed up the process for most people.
