Diontae Spencer entered the CFL in 2015 with the Toronto Argonauts and transformed into one of the league’s top receivers and a true threat on special teams in the two seasons he played with the Ottawa Redblacks.
This past weekend, the 26-year-old wide receiver joined multiple other CFL players by signing an NFL deal as he officially joined the Pittsburgh Steelers. Shortly after signing the deal, the CFL’s single-game yardage record holder (496 all-purpose yards) shared a heartfelt message with all the fans who supported him during his four-year CFL career, which was split between Toronto and Ottawa.
‘’First I would like to thank God for blessing me immensely throughout my journey of life. I also want to thank my family and friends who have loved and supported me through my many obstacles. I kept my head down and continued to grind not knowing when this opportunity would ever come again. Four years later I stand here today thanking the CFL for allowing me to be myself and make so many great memories. To my Toronto family thank you for giving me a chance and believing in a undersized kid from McNeese State. To the Ottawa Redblacks this was not a easy decision but I know you all have my back and support me 100 percent. You made me feel at home and I will never forget the fans, my coaches, and most importantly my teammates. With that being said I would like to thank the Pittsburgh Steelers Organization for believing in me. 2019…..To be continued. #cantstopwontstop”
The two-time CFL East All-Star is coming off a career-best season where he hauled in 81 catches on 114 targets for 1,007 yards and 7 touchdowns, and also added 2,691 all-purpose yards and one touchdown on special teams.
