John Tortorella has a knack for making waves with his words.

A known press conference tyrant as a head coach, Torts’ latest job as an analyst for ESPN has proved to spark controversy as well. While he’s never afraid to speak his mind, Torts ruffled a few feathers last week when he criticized the game of… Connor McDavid.

Essentially, Tortorella explained that McDavid would have to change his game if he wanted to ever make a run for the Cup. Torts believes that McDavid needs to stop looking for calls and fight through adversity instead, and it opened the hockey world up wide open for hot debate.

That was nearly a week ago, but on Thursday TSN Hockey reporter Ryan Rishaug asked McDavid whether he thought he should get more calls. McDavid’s sarcastic response was chocked full of salt presumably directed towards Torts, and we are absolutely here for it.

Did it just get colder in here?

Realistically, the chances of this beef going anywhere are pretty slim. Both likely carry too much respect for each other to for little jabs to fester into real beef, but it’s entertaining to see two of the faces of hockey exchange little shots nonetheless.

Or they could straight up drop the gloves?
