Some fans go to baseball games in hopes of seeing a pitching war between two aces, while others go in hopes of seeing a lot of home runs and offence. Well, if you’re a fan of the latter and attended Monday’s tilt between the host Reno Aces and the Tacoma Rainiers then you were not disappointed.
The game did not lack offence in the slightest bit as the Aces and Rainiers combined for 39 hits and 33 runs, in what concluded as a 25-8 victory for the Aces, and the biggest performance of the afternoon came from designated hitter Yasmany Tomás.
The 28-year-old got things started with a three-run home run in his first at-bat and that was just the beginning of a performance he’ll never forget. In the third inning Tomás was at it again.
Hitting a couple of home runs in one game is already an impressive achievement, but Tomás was really feeling it on Monday afternoon as he went on to finish the game 5-for-6 with FOUR home runs and EIGHT RBI.
Tomás had the best day of all his teammates, but he wasn’t the only person who had a performance to remember as Kevin Cron went 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI and Matt Szczur hit for the cycle in the Aces’ blowout over the Rainiers.
Both Tomás and Cron have put together unbelievable seasons so far as Tomás has cranked 13 home runs and totaled 37 RBI through 42 games, while Cron leads the Pacific Coast League with 21 home runs and 60 RBI.
