DeMar DeRozan may not be a Toronto Raptor anymore, but that doesn’t mean he’s not them on.
The 29-year-old has been forced to watch his former squad march its ways to the NBA Finals largely in part to the player he was traded for; star forward Kawhi Leonard. Toronto is now just three games away from winning the city’s first NBA title and while he has reasons to root against them, DeRozan is staying strong for his former teammates.
In an interview with Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks, the Compton native made it clear that he’s fully supporting his best friend Kyle Lowry and the guys. With that said, he also admitted he was “hurt” by last summer’s trade and tabbed himself as the “sacrificial lamb”.
DeRozan’s support for the Raptors has been well documented throughout the playoffs. In a one-on-one interview with The Undefeated’s Marc Spears, Lowry revealed that the two have been “speaking” the whole way and has been texting the guys he had a relationship with.
The DeRozan-Lowry friendship is great and all, but we only feel it’s necessary to share a photo from the former’s Instagram account after the Raps advanced to the finals. This one was just a bit cryptic…
DeRozan finished his tenure in Toronto with four All-Star appearances and a Second Team All-Star (2018) under his belt. Time will tell if the city he called home for nine seasons can finally get it done without him.
