Can you believe it’s officially been more than a year since David Ayres went between the pipes against the Carolina Hurricanes? Against the organization he worked for?!?!
It was a magical night for so many reasons. For starters, a 42-year-old Zamboni driver got to live his dream out in the most unexpected way. And if we really want to get deep, it was one of the last games when fans were actually allowed in the stands.
Ah, good times.
Fans were waiting all day to see what Ayres would post to commemorate the day and although he waited until the evening, he did not disappoint. He kept things short and wholesome, and brought his followers back to the most memorable night (and loss) of the Maple Leafs’ 2019-20 season.
The smile in photo number three tells it all. Beauty!
The Hurricanes, on the other hand, were a little quicker to recognize Dave’s achievement. After all, February 22nd is David Ayres day in North Carolina. Yes, he actually had a day named after him because of his performance. Ayres came in and stopped 8/10 shots in the Canes’ 6-3 win.
It’s a day late now, but happy belated David Ayres day everyone. A night none of us will ever forget!
