T.J. Oshie has become a fan favourite in Washington since joining the Capitals back in 2015.

Ahead of Games 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup Final, Oshie was spotted taking the D.C. Metro to each game.

However, despite making nearly $6 million a season, the 31-year-old ran into a very relatable issue ahead of Game 4 as he found out at the front of the line that his card didn’t have enough available funds on it.

As a result, the Metro reached out to Oshie and told him that they would create a special edition card in honour of him and the Capitals if they won the Stanley Cup. The Capitals came through on their end of the deal by capturing the Cup in five games, and on Monday the Metro held up their end of the bargain as well.

Rather than just honouring Oshie on the card, the company decided to show the entire team some love instead considering they just won their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. This is also the first time that the company has made a commemorative SmarTrip card that marks the occasion of a DC sports championship.
