Per a recent report in The Athletic, the Colorado Avalanche have held some internal discussions about bringing back the classic Quebec Nordiques jersey to celebrate their 25th anniversary next season, a prospect which obviously has hockey fans everywhere excited.
The success of the Carolina Hurricanes' use of their throwback Hartford Whalers uniform this season has inspired the Avalanche to consider doing the same, and now, the Hurricanes themselves are throwing their weight behind a potential revival of the Nordiques tarps.
Could a Whalers-Nordiques game be in the cards next season? We’re all for it, and it looks like the Canes are game as well.
The Nordiques’ original fans in Quebec may still hold some resentment over the team’s departure — likewise, Whalers fans from Hartford weren’t all pleased to see the Hurricanes adopt their imagery this season. Still though, the nostalgia here is strong.
One of the Avalanche’s own players, Nazem Kadri, has been on board for bringing the Nordiques jersey back for a while, and he’s definitely excited at the possibility of playing in those classic sweaters next season.
