Goalies are known to be an odd bunch, but when you combine that with an already odd bunch of superstitions that athletes have, it’s magnified.
Carter Hart’s superstition is that he never leaves the ice until everyone else has in warmups.
Well, Finland’s backup goalie Lassi Lehtinen wasn’t very accommodating for this ritual. He was standing around, stretching and chatting with some of the trainers while Carter Hart just stood there and waited. If this becomes more well-known teams might start abusing this a little more.
This looks oddly familiar to another ritual we’ve become familiar with in the NHL.
Tyler Seguin and Mark Scheifele don’t like leaving the ice first either and they like to have a little friendly competition when they play against each other. They wait at their respective doors and they play rock paper scissors.
