Remember when Edmonton Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot sounded off after his teammate Patrick Maroon was called for goaltender interference against the Phoenix Coyotes? Well, the 30-year-old might have a different view on the rule based on an outcome that went in his favour against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night.
After Dustin Brown scored with 18 seconds left in regulation, the Kings found themselves pressing in Oilers territory with time running out. Brown appeared to have scored his second goal of the contest, but a coach’s challenge ruled he committed goaltender interference. Edmonton went on to win the game 4-3 and picked up a much needed win against their division rival.
Before the clock hit zeros, Talbot had the look of a kid in a candy store. After the ruling, he simply raised his arms in the air and took a long look at his bench.
“Finally!”
The Oilers came away relieved, but their team, and others around the league know the feeling of losing a challenge and being left confused all-too-well. Who really knows what goaltender interference even is these days?
Talbot can celebrate for now, but it’s just a matter of time before he loses another controversial challenge and finds himself expressing his frustration to the media once again.
