And just like that, Patty Laine is already in John Tortorella’s doghouse.

It took just four games for the 22-year-old to get the ole’ Torts treatment, as he was benched for the end of the second period and the entire third after appearing to blow his coverage in the defensive zone on a Hurricanes goal. Laine, of course, is far from the first Jackets player to find his bottom glued to the bench under the head coach so it didn’t exactly catch any of them surprise. Just look at what Cam Atkinson had to say on the situation…

Been there, done that.

Torts predictably tried to downplay the whole thing by saying he never likes to bench a player. He may not like it, but the guy certainly has never been afraid to do it! PLD is probably havin’ a cold one with his feet up somewhere in Winnipeg right now.

As our very own Julia Tocheri said, the only surprising here is that it didn’t happen sooner. Well said Jules, well said.

We’re just going to have to see how this one unfolds. And so it begins!
