Before Sacred Heart University women's hockey's New England Hockey Conference Open playoff game against St. Anslem on Saturday, senior defenceman Teagan Ketchum skated to the blue line with teammates to prepare for the national anthem. What she didn't realize was her brother, Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Trevor Ketchum, was hidden in the penalty box waiting to surprise her.
The brother and sister hadn't seen each other in 14 months, and Trevor returned home from his last deployment and wanted to surprise his sister. When Teagan first notices Trevor she can't contain her emotions, before embracing for 15 seconds, followed by another embrace directly after. Trevor then dropped the ceremonial puck, which Teagan took against a member of the St. Anslem team.
Unfortunately for Sacred Heart, they fell 5-1 to St. Anslem in the game, but the Ketchum family will no doubt always remember the night their hearts were filled with joy when Trevor returned home.
