Whenever a family has one of its members make it to the NHL, it’s pretty impressive. It’s a testament to hard work and dedication, but also often reflects on the family’s commitment to helping their boy achieve his dream.
Then there are families that seem to use the NHL as though it’s the local house league. The Staal family is one that comes to mind, with Eric, Marc, Jordan, and even Jared Staal making appearances in the league. The Subban family is also a strong hockey family, but no family is stronger in the NHL than the Sutter family.
Multiple players, multiple generations… the Sutters know their way around the league. Brian, Brent, Duane, Darryl, Ron, and Rich are six brothers that ALL made the league. Brian, Brent, Duane, and Darryl all went on to become coaches or general managers as well.
Now, Brandon, Brody, and Brett Sutter are the new generation in and around the NHL. On Monday, Brandon recorded his first career hat-trick, which was the 19th hat-trick recorded by a member of the Sutter family.
The craziest part of the Sutter family’s success is that the 7th brother, Gary, was rumoured to have been the best Sutter of all. Instead of pursuing an NHL career, he instead stayed to work on the family farm.
Soon enough the whole league is going to be Sutter family members.
