Bobby Orr is one of the only players in NHL history that gave Wayne Gretzky some competition for the greatest players of all time, so he might know a little bit about what it takes to make the NHL.
He thinks many parents are a little over committed to hockey at the moment.
As any hockey parent knows, the hockey season has quickly become a never-ending grind and kids are playing non-stop from a very early age. Many organizations actually suggest that multi-sport participation can actually be more beneficial for athletes as they grow up and it appears Orr agrees.
Orr’s advice should probably be more relevant than anyone’s. After a legendary hockey career, he has transitioned into a career as an agent where he is gathering clients at ages as early as 15. He understands the process better than anybody and while parents often think playing all year long might help their kids get seen by potential talent agents, but as he says, “If your kid can play, they can find you”.
While Orr wasn’t saying that kids should be playing lacrosse, we’re sure there are many players who would. There are a lot of LAX players in hockey, but two of the most prominent in recent years have been Tyler Seguin and John Tavares.
Seguin still plays a little lacrosse himself and we’re sure many other NHLers do as well.
