Currently in hibernation up at his cottage, Bobby Margarita is enjoying the offseason sitting up at his lakefront property with not a worry in the world.
If you frequent hockey twitter, you know that for two months of the year, TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenize is known as Bobby Margarita when he goes into offseason mode.
When he's not breaking trades or free-agent signings, Bobby is out enjoying the finer things in life.
But for a brief moment early Monday morning, the real Bob McKenzie emerged and dropped some interesting tidbits on the hockey world, including on how the Leafs are "hoping" for someone to offer sheet Mitch Marner.
To summarize, it sounds like the Leafs are fine with waiting for negotiations to play out, and would possibly welcome an offer sheet being signed if a team wants to step up. Given the rumoured numbers on the Marner deald and how complex a long-term extension are, the Leafs might have to think long and hard about if they get offered a boat load of draft picks if Marner were to sign one.
But if Marner is still unsigned come Labour Day in September, there’s the chance that talks could pick up steam come training camp. Given how the William Nylander saga played out last season, it might be best for all parties to sign on the dotted line before the start of the 2019/2020 season.
Thank you for updating us, Bobby. Now back to the margarita machine and the gym.
