Blues teammates Robert Bortuzzo and Zach Sanford dropped the gloves at practice

The St. Louis Blues had playoff aspirations heading into the season, but those aspirations have all but vanished due to an awful start to the season. The Blues currently sit in second last in the Central with 24 points and they are coming off of a 6-1 loss to the Canucks.

On Monday at practice, tensions seemed to boil over as Robert Bortuzzo and Zach Sanford dropped the gloves and started throwing punches.

It was a battle drill between Bortuzzo and Sanford, Bortuzzo was cross-checking him a bit, Sanford turned around, gloves dropped and Bortuzzo got in at least two punches. Van Ryn and Ott broke it up. Bortuzzo left the ice. #stlblues https://t.co/tRPuE0EYum

Head coach Craig Berube was asked about the fight and this is what he had to say:

Berube on Bortuzzo-Sanford fight: “That happens. Guys are frustrated and they should be. So sometimes in practice it boils over and things happen ... that’s what happens because they do care and they want to be successful and they want to win.” #stlblues

Right now, the Blues are reeling and looking for answers. The good news is there's still a lot of time to turn things around, but they'll have to take it one game at a time if they hope to string together some wins and get back into the race before the All-Star break.

Tarasenko: “I apologize to all our fans. We can’t play at home like this. I don’t know how to fix it. We work on it but it doesn’t work for now.”

Steen: “Right now we’re not committed enough to what we want to accomplish”

Schenn: “We’re a fragile group. It comes with losing”
