Toronto Maple Leafs fans spent way too much time this season wondering whether or not William Nylander was ever going to don the blue and white ever again and they’re hoping they won’t have to do it all over again this upcoming offseason and leading into next season as it’s now time to make deals with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, who are in the final year of their entry level contracts.

During the NHL All-Star media day on Thursday night in San Jose, Matthews was asked about his current contract situation with the team and if they’re working on anything at the moment. Considering he’s been in this situation before he was even an NHL player, he seems to know how to  handle things right now.

It doesn’t sound like signing a new contract appears to be at the top of Matthews’ current to-do list, but it will definitely be right at the top of that list once the season is all said and done and the focus switches to the 2019-20 season.

Matthews has missed some time this season due to injuries and recently just got out of a personal scoring drought, but he still has 21 goals and 22 assists for 43 points in just 35 games this season. In 179 career games, the 21-year-old has already scored 95 goals to go with 80 assists for 175 points.
