Before the age of 25, Washington Capitals power forward Tom Wilson became one of the most controversial but effective players in the modern day NHL.
Wilson brings a rare breed of skill and aggression that, when applied in a fair manner, can make all the difference in the world in today's game where physicality isn't as prominent as the yesteryears.
If you need any evidence, look no further than last year's postseason, where the Toronto native potted 15 points in 21 games while simultaneously being a thorn in the side of all four the Capitals opponents on route to their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
Known to step over the boundaries from time to time, the edge Wilson has crossed the line of controversy, earning himself a reputation of recklessness.
But with 22 goals, 17 assists in 59 games this season, the argument could be made that Wilson is starting to play more within the legal limits of the sport, and showing that he's actually a pretty talented player who has legitimized himself as a top-six forward.
The 16th overall pick turned 25 on Friday, and to celebrate Wilson's birthday, fellow Capitals winger Andre Burakovsky shared a photo of a much younger Wilson when his game wasn't as polished.
"Happy birthday brother. Really hope that you enjoy your day. #25" wrote Burakovsky on his Instagram caption.
Who knew that would be the face of destruction out on the ice one day?
Knowing Wilson, you just knew there was no way he was going to let Burakovsky off the hook without firing back a chirp.
This isn't the first time Burakovsky has trolled Wilson with this particular photo. Two years ago, he tweeted out the picture while taking a shot at Wilson's hair.
Did Burakovsky sneak into the Wilson family home and sneak a photo of that throwback? Let's hope we see one these photos Wilson has in the vault of Burakovsky come his birthday.
