For hockey fans, the trade deadline marks one of the more exciting times of the year. It’s where contenders set their sights on Stanley and beef up in pursuit of hockey’s most prized possession, and where pretenders throw in the towel and try to maximize value on their assets.

It’s a time full of anticipation, excitement, and chronic overthinking. It’s a time for fans and analysts to commune and discuss. It’s TradeCentre, baby!

If you’ve been able to tune in to TSN’s annual trade deadline show, you would likely agree that it is a show like no other. Over the years, we’ve seen Gino Reda wrangle some llamas, we’ve seen Jeff “O-Dog” O’Neill firmly establish himself as a ketchup superfan, we’ve even seen a TradeCentre-themed mascot appear for the 10-hour show only to then disappear alongside our chances at a good night’s sleep.

Here's the thing… A lot of deals happen in the days leading up to deadline day. As a result, sometimes we have to get a little creative when the actual day strikes. There’s often… uh… a lot of space to fill…

While the long periods of time between trades are forgotten, the evergreen content we get from TradeCentre last forever. Here are some of the highlights from the 2022 edition on TradeCentre.

It started off with a bang, as Coach Cal made a special appearance to give the TSN Hockey panel a shot of adrenaline. He delivered with an impassioned pep talk.

Later on, O-Dog needed a boost that coffee could no longer provide. Luckily Coach Cal stuck around to give another pep talk before taking off to… his Grade 2 class.

This afforded TSN the opportunity to introduce the team properly. And by properly, we mean Sunday Night Football style.

One significant edition to this year’s SportsCentre is the ever-entertaining BarDown squad. DZ, Corwin, Jesse, and Luca gave their reaction to trade news while providing some entertainment on the side.

On the wholesome side, TSN organized a surprise appearance from hockey legend Angela James. It wasn’t just a surprise for the audience, though. It was also quite a shock for former teammate Cheryl Pounder.

Speaking of old friends, we also were treated to an appearance from Pittsburgh Penguins President and CEO Brian Burke. His reunion with old pal James Duthie proves nothing has changed between the two.

Of course, it’s not all segments and bits on TradeCentre. We also actually break down trades and extend our coverage as we see fit. One of those ways was to chat with the subject of perhaps the day’s biggest deal; the Minnesota Wild’s newest goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.

Possibly the highlight of the entire show was Jennifer Hedger’s revenge on Marty Biron. Of course, it wasn’t long ago that Biron absolutely sniped Hedger with a t-shirt cannon, and this has been a revenge years in the making.

The only difference… it wasn’t a t-shirt headed on a projectile towards Biron.

That’s a wrap! Hope you enjoyed the madness that is trade deadline day, particularly when you’re tuned in to TSN.

Until next year!
