Around the NHL, players are finding their own ways to make a statement in support of social justice, and New York Rangers goalie Alexander Georgiev is going to take that directly into his on-ice style.
Georgiev’s new goalie mask for the playoffs features Martin Luther King Jr. with one of MLK’s iconic quotes: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character."
Georgiev will wear this mask for the playoffs and then auction it off for charity, with the proceeds to benefit children and families of colour in need within the New York area.
It’s great to see players around the NHL find new ways to step up their contribution to the cause, and it doesn’t look like the focus on social justice is going to be fading in hockey any time soon even as games resume.
