Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals put together a fantastic run to capture their first Stanley Cup in franchise history and the players had some great playoff bears to show for their historic run.
While the Capitals championship party is still well underway and will most likely go on for another couple of weeks, one good thing came to an end on Wednesday as Ovi finally said goodbye to his incredible playoff beard.
Ovechkin started his day looking a little older than his actual age (32), but ended it looking like his rookie self when he entered the NHL as a 20-year-old.
“Obviously, this has been an unbelievable time for me and thanks to my old friends at Gillette I can now take a great shave before the summer and we come back next year to try to do it again!!” said Ovechkin after he shaved off his beard.
Although the mighty Ovi playoff beard is no longer a thing, the Conn Smythe Trophy winner did it all for a good cause as he’s going to be auctioning off a couple of the Gillette Fusion ProShield razors he used to get rid of his beard and will donate all the proceeds to the American Special Hockey Association.
Don’t let the baby faced Ovechkin fool you, though, because he’s still as dangerous on the ice as he ever was.
