An equipment mishap turned into something incredible on Sunday night, when Columbus Blue Jackets anthem singer Leo Welsh forgot his microphone. What ensued was the entire crowd at Nationwide Arena, banding together to sing it in his stead.

You don’t normally see ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ performed by an entire crowd, unlike ‘O Canada,’ but there’s no denying that this was a pretty special moment to watch, and probably even more to be a part of.

Even apart from this spectacle, it’s clear that this was no regular game in Columbus. The ceremonial puck drop was made by Rick Nash, in the aftermath of his recent decision to retire due to lingering concussion symptoms.

And it was remarkably fitting for the moment that the Blue Jackets were playing against the New York Rangers, ensuring that both of the teams that Nash was known for playing with were represented. As you can guess, he got quite the reception from the home crowd.
