Could this be the year a Canadian hockey team brings the cup back North? The odds are in its favour, according to hockey analytics website MoneyPuck.com.
The Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Maple Leafs are currently the only teams set to represent Canada in April, with the Calgary Flames not far out of the picture in the Western conference. Winnipeg and Toronto were both given significant odds to win it all, but the Jets stand not just with the best in Canada, but entire league at 14.1%. The Tampa Bay Lightning sit behind them at 12.7% while Boston sits third at 9.8%. The Leafs were given the seventh best odds at 4.5%.
Winnipeg has been red hot of late, having won seven of their last 10 games and four of six since acquiring center Paul Stastny. The team is also tied for the best home record in the Western conference heading into Sunday’s action at 24-7-2. Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs have gone 5-3-2 and are coming off of a huge 5-2 win over Pittsburgh without their star superstar Auston Matthews.
Before the season, Bovada, an online casino sportsbook company, gave the Edmonton Oilers the second best odds along with the Chicago Blackhawks to win it all. Winnipeg was awarded the 23rd best odds while Toronto was given the 12th, so it’s safe to say it’s been an interesting year so far in the NHL.
A Canadian team has not hoisted Lord Stanley’s mug since Patrick Roy and the Montreal Canadians did in 1993. Will Winnipeg or Toronto be the next?
