90-year-old Phoenix Suns fan Greta Rogers isn’t holding back when it comes to team owner Robert Sarver.
Sarver expressed his desire to have the people of Phoenix pay $150 million to help renevote Talking Stick Resort Arena and reportedly threatened to move the team to Seattle or Las Vegas if his proposal isn’t approved. Rogers isn’t having it, though, and is letting the world know how ridiculous she thinks the whole idea is. After a video of her speaking to city council members on the matter went public, she was interviewed by Phoenix New Times on the issue and again, just let it all out. She pointed out Sarver’s poor ownership and the other issues the city should be allocating money towards.
The following is an excerpt from the Phoenix New Times:
“The Suns have been a failure as long as he’s owned them, because he won’t invest in two or three top-grade players because that costs money, real money. As long as he runs this teams the way he’s run it, it will be a failure.
… We don’t have $150 million or any figure above that flopping around in a miscellaneous account wanting or wishing to be used before it goes obsolete and goes into a big slush fund for anything. We have infrastructural problems in this city, primarily streets. We did a major sewer replacement on Southern Avenue a couple years ago, from the Tempe line and then north. We have water line issues coming up.”
In case you missed it, here’s the video that originally put her on the map:
Tell us how you really feel, Greta!
Vegas and Seattle with soon both have their own hockey teams but if it’s up to Greta, they won’t be receiving a new basketball franchise any time soon.
