The Ottawa Senators kicked things back a few decades by brining back their old 2D logo, and it got us thinking… should other teams do the same?
Yes, they should. At least that’s this writer’s opinion.
We’ve seen some truly remarkable logos over the years that, for whatever reason, were moved on from. Maybe they just didn’t seem as cool at the time but looking back now, we can all agree that at least five of them would be welcomed with open arms back into the NHL by fans. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at the obvious ones we can likely all agree on.
5. WHALER
This one would be a bit trickier, simply because the organization changed its name after moving from Harford. But the ‘Carolina Whalers’ has kind of a nice ring to it, no? Bring back the whale and get Rob Brind’Amour’s guys back in the navy, green, white and grey on a full-time basis!
4. NORDIQUE
Same situation with the Nordiques logo. The Avs jerseys are great and all but the Nordiques’ red, white and blues will forever be some of the nicest in league history. Maybe if Quebec gets another team, they’ll bring it back?! The Colorado Nordiques just has a bit of a weird ring to it.
3. CANUCK SKATE
This one would be much easier. The organization wouldn’t even have to change its name! Going back to a red, yellow and black colour scheme would be awesome, but even the logo with its new jersey could look cool. Regardless of which sweater it’s on, this logo will forever go down as one of the all-time greats.
2. MIGHTY DUCKS LOGO
Must I go on? This is arguably the coolest logo in NHL history and the team’s new one is really nothing to write home about. It’s a shame the team was forced to move on from this one in the first place, and they should do everything in their power to bring it back on a full-time basis. QUACK, QUACK, QUACK MR. DUCKSWORTH!
1. CLASSIC JETS
Sure, call me bias. I don’t care. But this logo is an absolute beauty and should make a permanent return to the Jets. Don’t get me wrong, the new logo is pretty cool. But imagine this on the classic retro sweaters? Those jerseys would sell out in a heartbeat.
So… which logo do you think should make a permanent comeback and not just be used as a very occasional third jersey?
