Like any sport, there are a number of NASCAR records that will NEVER be broken. Yes, no record is technically unbreakable, but because of how the sport has evolved over time, anyone would feel good about calling these records unbreakable.
Ahead of the second racing week of the season, here's a bit of a history lesson! These are 5 NASCAR records that will never be broken.
5. Most Starts Without A Win
This isn't a record anyone would want to break, but it's a record nonetheless held by J.D. McDuffie. Imagine not winning a single race of 653. Michael McDowell, who just won at Daytona last weekend, was the closest in contention for the record before his victory at 358 starts without a win.
4. Biggest Margin of Victory
Lapping the field is difficult enough, but Ned Jarrett did it back in 1965 and he did it 14 times en route to victory. Granted, a lot of cars didn't finish the race, but it still counts!
3. Most Wins
The 3rd marks the first of 3 from NASCAR's GOAT, Richard Petty. Petty owns the record for most career wins with 200. To put that into context, Jimmie Johnson (who is still racing) has 83 wins and he's got the most wins among active drivers. Good luck catching Richard.
2. Most Wins in a Season
Richard Petty's 1967 was absurd. He won more than half that season's races (27) and went on a 10-race win streak. If you're wondering who's second on this list, it's Petty with 21 wins in 1971.
1. Most Consecutive Wins
We alluded to it in No. 2, but Richard Petty's 10-straight race win streak is the top record that will never be broken.
