Oh, you thought Zdeno Chara might retire? Nah.

The big man is returning for another year, confirmed the Boston Bruins on Twitter. The team announced a one-year extension for Chara on Saturday morning, which will bring the 42-year-old Bruins captain back for his 22nd season in the NHL.

The second oldest active player in the NHL behind Matt Cullen, Chara’s one-year deal does not necessarily mean that the 2019-20 season will be his last dance in the NHL — he could still continue to sign one-year deals for years to come, if he wants.

It certainly seems like Bruins fans would like that, and the hockey world at large was enthusiastic to see that one of the NHL’s elder statesmen would be returning for at least one more year.
