Things got HEATED during Saturday night’s battle of Alberta.
With the game tied at three’s late in the second period, Matthew Tkachuk delivered a monstrous hit (one of many throughout the game) on Zack Kassian. The last one particularly didn’t sit well with Kassian, who proceeded to grab Tkachuk afterward and drag him around like a ragdoll as he turtled from fighting. Kassian, who earned 14 penalty minutes and a misconduct for his actions, was clearly still frsutrated after the Oilers 4-3 loss, calling Tkachuk “a young punk” and some other words while addressing the play with the media. Kassian admitted his opponent’s a good player but doesn’t seem to think he’s tough…
Tell us how you really feel, Zack! And can you imagine what a playoff series would be like between these two teams? The Flames hold a two point lead over the Oilers in the Pacific Division, so anything’s possible!
Tkachuk also spoke his mind, arguing that Kassian should “stay off the tracks” if he doesn’t want to get hit. The 22-year-old seemed perfectly content with the way things played out, as Calgary went on to score on the ensuing power play.
The NHL’s Player Safety department announced on Sunday that Kassian will have a hearing for his actions on Monday, so time will tell how this one plays out. One thing is clear, however… these dudes clearly aren’t fond of one another.
