Canada is undoubtedly a hockey country. From coast to coast you can pretty much plop down anywhere and you’ll be greeted with a “Hi, how are ya?” and the latest from the hockey world. Hockey is in the DNA of Canadians, possibly facilitated by the fact that we spend so much of the year blanketed in snow and below-zero temperatures.
In America, it more depends where you are.
For example, warmer states such as Arizona and Florida are sometimes thought to give less thought about hockey than what they ate for breakfast that morning. On the flip side, cities such as Boston, Detroit, and Chicago carry strong fan bases in an area that hockey is solidified as “Big 4” sport. When it truly comes down to it, however, Minnesota is undoubtedly the hockey capital of the states.
Sometimes referred to as the hockey state, Minnesota lives and breathes hockey. It is in close proximity to the aforementioned hockey hotbed in Canada, and it basically spends the same amount of time locked into wintery weather.
Featuring Hollywood’s favourite hockey flick – The Mighty Ducks – also helped to solidify he state’s love for hockey. Who is the king of the hockey state, you ask? Well, it just became Zach Parise.
Many may have expected more goals out of the all-time Minnesota leader, but Parise’s 341st awarded him the crown. As for Parise himself? He doesn’t seem too bothered with the record.
