It doesn’t matter whether it’s a team initiative or something they’re doing on their own time out of the goodness of their heart, just about every single professional athlete finds a way to give back to the community in some sort of way.
For Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog there’s a particular organization that’s near and dear to his heart and that’s Friends; an organization dedicated to providing schools and sports clubs with the proper tools and resources to combat bullying, discrimination and inequality among children and young people. Working with Friends isn’t just a part-time thing for Landeskog as the 26-year-old has been a Global Ambassador for the organization since 2014.
Friends isn’t the only charitable organization Landeskog works with outside of hockey and everything he does in the community has not gone unnoticed. On Wednesday, Landeskog shared a tweet that included a touching letter he received from a young fan named Maddie in regards to his role as an anti-bullying ambassador that will warm your heart.
Not only did Landeskog come across Maddie’s letter but the Avalanche treated her to an experience of a lifetime on Tuesday night when they paid a visit to the Minnesota Wild.
Athletes aren’t required to get involved in the community, but those who do manage to get out truly do make a difference and manage to gain supporters in different ways.
