Swedish forward Lias Andersson finally received his wish yesterday after Sweden defeated Switzerland in the IIHF World Hockey Championship Gold medal game.

The 2017 7th overall pick captained his country at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championships and unfortunately made headlines for all the wrong reasons. After falling to the Canadians in a devastating one-goal loss, Andersson took his silver medal and chucked it into the crowd. But after finally receiving his coveted Gold Medal yesterday, the 19-year-old poked fun at himself with a hilarious Instagram post.

Here’s a look at the toss that shocked the hockey world.

The monkey was finally taken off of Andersson’s back, who had previously failed to capture a gold medal in international competition. In five international appearances, The New Rangers prospect captured three silvers, one bronze, and a fourth place finish.

Andersson finished the tournament with just one goal and an assist through 10 games. It’s nice to see he was able to catch a break after his controversial throw got him in some hot water with hockey fans worldwide this past January.
