How long did they have to say it for?
Put women’s sports on TV!
The WNBA has been the leader of the pack in terms of organizing for social justice causes, and they’re also one of the most established women’s sports leagues in the world. For so long, young girls who grow up with aspirations of being a professional athletes had no one to look up to, or any real end goal. As the saying goes, ‘if you can’t see it, you can’t dream it’. Girls have never had the opportunity to have a viable professional league they could dream of playing in, which lead to less girls playing organized sports.
Finally, they can see it: and they want to see more.
Now that the WNBA is more widely broadcasted, people actually have to opportunity to watch their games. Viewership is higher than ever before, and on a year where mainstream sports have been hit so hard, the WNBA has seen some significant growth in viewership and interest.
We imagine people will be even more engaged this week with the Finals starting, and we hope to see these numbers continue to rise in the coming years.
People need to have the opportunity to watch women’s sports in order to be fans, and now that they can, it’s clear that basketball fans are liking what they see. Let’s keep it going!
